Scary monsters. Scheming witches. Super sidekicks. In this workshop, students will take turns playing all the parts as they act out a classic fairy tale. We will read out loud together from the script, play theater games to awaken our creativity, make our own props, and have fun putting together an original performance.

In this workshop, students will learn and practice illustration techniques to create their own cartoons characters. Students will then explore putting their characters into situations and scenarios, and write their own mini comics. Students will recieve copies of their final products to share with friends!

Each week this workshop will offer students a different focus on movement, dance, singing, and artistic expression. Class will begin with stretching and warm-ups and a discussion about creative ways to be active. Then Ms. Packard will lead the class in energetic and interesting activities. In this workshop, students will create their own large scale paintings on canvas while learning about color theory in painting. They will explore different color relationships, hues and shades, and use their knowledge to create paintings that encompass each element of art. Environmental Explorers is a workshop that connects students to nature right in “our own backyard”. Each week, students will dig into a new topics while building science practices and naturalist skills. When possible, lessons will bring students outside and use whatever environment is readily available. There is also be opportunities to meet some of Mass Audubon’s native wildlife ambassadors (live animals). Come explore and learn more about the natural world. This workshop is open to new and returning students.

Each week, the students will listen to a delightful story specifically chosen to entertain and engage the kindergarten students.  The story will be followed up with a question of the day that allows the students to share their thoughts and make connections to the story.  After the discussion, there will be a connected activity – ranging from crafts, to STEM projects and more. This workshop will inspire a love of reading, and encourage imagination and creativity.

Mechanical theaters are a little known part of the history of theater and animation. Engineering and theatrical art come together to create a unique storytelling machine. In this workshop, we will create our very own crank operated theaters out of household materials. Students will build both the mechanism and their own puppets and backdrops. This is a time to let your imagination take off!

Say “hello, world” to coding with this fun introduction to the language of computers. Using Scratch Jr., an online block-based code platform, students will explore how computers process information by putting together code to complete different tasks and challenges each week.

In this high energy workshop, kindergarten students will improve their gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, spacial awareness, teamwork and social skills. Alex is excited to lead this action packed class where students will learn classic games and well as new and creative games while staying active and engaged.

Please note there will be no workshop on 6/4. Students enrolled in the workshop will stay with regular BASEC programming from 3:00 – 4:00 PM.

In this workshop, students will be introduced to more advanced building techniques and tools to create a miniature building of their own design. These young architects will be the leader of their own projects; from creating blueprints and building plans, to choosing materials and tools, to making their building. Express how machines make our world move! In this workshops, students will be introduced to a different type of simple machine each week while learning about their real-work applications. This is an action packed workshop where students will build confidence, learn new skills, master BASEC games, and discover the joy of teamwork. Alex will also be introducing Disc Golf by teaching entry-level frisbee throwing skills and information about the game. Come join the fun!
