Robotics with Ola (Grades 3-4)
In this intro robotics workshop students will learn to program robots remotely!
Students will explore the three major functions of a robot — sensing (input), thinking (computation), and acting (output) — through a series of missions in the GoPiGo robotics platform.
Students can code from the comfort of their own homes, email/upload code to the instructor, and watch their code executed over Zoom! We’ll work collaboratively to improve robot performance. Scratch familiarity is a plus, but not required. Students only need an internet-enabled device and an email account.
After an introduction to the GoPiGo platform, students will program and adapt robots for specific missions. Examples include:
– Navigating an obstacle course
– Creating an earthquake alarm
– Delivering a treat to the instructor’s cat
The GoPiGo is an educational robotics platform developed for the Raspberry Pi, a single-board computer that fits in the palm of your hand. The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based charity that works to put the power of computing and digital making into the hands of people all over the world.
This class is designed for students in grades 3-4.
