Hip Hop: Grades 1-2

In this workshop, students will be exposed to a variety of elements surrounding hip hop music and culture. They will play rhythm games, learn about lyrics, rhymes and songwriting, and develop an understanding of how to create electronic musical patterns on synthesizers and computers. Students will write and record original songs, as well as prepare and choreograph a group performance for a music video. Students will learn about the art of lyrical improvisation (‘freestyling”) as they engage in rhythm activities that encourage them to improvise and think quickly. Kabir Sen is a music teacher at Shady Hill, a recording artist, a DJ and a Burbank parent.
